{"id":9,"date":"2007-11-14T21:57:42","date_gmt":"2007-11-15T01:57:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.georgetownshores.org\/private\/blog\/?page_id=9"},"modified":"2021-11-15T12:10:44","modified_gmt":"2021-11-15T17:10:44","slug":"safety-committee-tips","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.georgetownshores.org\/private\/blog\/?page_id=9","title":{"rendered":"Safety Tips"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.georgetownshores.org\/private\/blog\/?p=5\" rel=\"bookmark\"><span style=\"color: #585d8b;\">Safety Committee Tips<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">A few friendly reminders from your Safety Committee\u2026<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The Safety Committee shall serve to educate and promote all safety issues that pertain to G<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">eorgetown <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Shores.\u00a0 <span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">We would also like to identify a few items that have already been brought to our attention in regard to Safe Boating Concerns.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\">PLEASE NOTE: The channel to the cove and the cove in Phase 6 is strictly NO WAKE as defined .\u00a0 Also, please take special note of item #3 below.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">State law specifies that when boating you should generally follow a counter-clockwise direction (shown in green)\u00a0 Adherence to this rule is especially important when other boats are present on the lake.<\/span><\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.georgetownshores.org\/private\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GS_Lake_Flow.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-618\" src=\"http:\/\/www.georgetownshores.org\/private\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GS_Lake_Flow-201x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.georgetownshores.org\/private\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GS_Lake_Flow-201x300.jpg 201w, http:\/\/www.georgetownshores.org\/private\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GS_Lake_Flow-768x1148.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.georgetownshores.org\/private\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GS_Lake_Flow-685x1024.jpg 685w, http:\/\/www.georgetownshores.org\/private\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GS_Lake_Flow-624x933.jpg 624w, http:\/\/www.georgetownshores.org\/private\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GS_Lake_Flow.jpg 952w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 201px) 100vw, 201px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The entire Cove Area (Shown in yellow in the above image) is Slow &#8211; No Wake area.\u00a0 This requires just idle speed when boating in this area.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Following directly in the path of a boat that is towing someone is dangerous.\u00a0 Keep a safe distance and try not to follow directly behind; stay off to one side or the other of the boat ahead.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">State law requires keeping a distance of at least 100\u2019 from other boats or docks when cruising.\u00a0 This means when towing someone, you need to be 100&#8242; <strong>PLUS <\/strong>the length of the rope from other boats or docks. \u00a0Driving too close to docks and other objects is a very dangerous practice.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Sitting on the top of the seat or the side of the boat while driving is dangerous.\u00a0 You could fall out and be struck by another boat or your own boat.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">When towing someone who falls, use the shortest path possible to retrieve them (avoid wide, sweeping turns).\u00a0 Please keep your boat near the person who is in the water.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">When towing someone, the primary job of the driver is to drive and keep the boat in a safe position on the lake.\u00a0 Others in the boat can keep an eye on the person being towed.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">State law specifies that when towing someone behind your boat you need to have an observer in the boat to watch the individual being towed.\u00a0 Please keep your attention in the direction of travel.\u00a0 Knowing where others are on the lake is important.\u00a0 The driver\u2019s first priority is to pay attention to what\u2019s going on ahead of the boat.\u00a0 Adherence to this rule is especially important when other boats are present.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Please do not swim across the lake without a floating marker.\u00a0 This could be a tube of some sort or a boat.\u00a0 Adherence to this rule is especially important when other boats are present.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">If you see something floating in the water, (sticks, chunks of wood, bottles, cans) please pick them up and remove them from the water.\u00a0 Use care when boating for the first time in the spring.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Please use common sense.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">For more information about <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Michigan boating\/safety, check out <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/boat-ed.com\/mi\/handbook\/\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;
