For those who are not familiar with the Georgetown Shores Ski League (GSSL) we are an unofficial group made up of individuals who like the challenge of improving their skiing ability in the company of friends.\u00a0 This improvement is scored and tracked by each individual using the buoys in the west bay.\u00a0 If you have only free skied, you should really try it.\u00a0\u00a0 It is kind of like a golfer always going to the driving range and then someone introduces them to a course where they keep score.\u00a0 It can be a little frustrating but the challenge to improve is very satisfying.<\/p>\n
If anyone has questions as to how this is done, stop by the house of any of those who ski it regularly and ask.\u00a0 We would love to chat with anyone about it.<\/p>\n
The league is set up with a handicap system that will level the playing field for the beginner to advanced skier.\u00a0 The league will start on July 1, 2015 and end on September 7, 2015.\u00a0 We will be using the month of June to determine your initial handicap.\u00a0 In order to calculate your 2014 average, you must enter six scores in the League Webform prior to July 1st.\u00a0 This is only applicable to those who are new to the ski league this year.\u00a0 For those that skied last year, your last year score will be used to determine your handicap.<\/p>\n
Tracking your scoring is as simple as entering your score into a web site (Thank you Randy Plaisier).\u00a0 Scoring will include head to head completion, points for # of sets skied, points based on percentage of improvement, and (possibly?) points from a summer tournament.<\/p>\n
Once again, we are looking forward to this year\u2019s league competition.\u00a0 Whether you are a beginner or you have been skiing the course for a few years, the handicap system will allow everyone who enters the ability to compete.\u00a0 The ski league, even though competitive, is more about meeting neighbors and people who like to water ski.<\/p>\n
A reminder to all that skiing the course is not to be done when the lake is busy.\u00a0 There is no problem with driving through the buoys in any manner but when the lake is active with other boats, a state mandated counter clockwise rotation of the lake should be observed.<\/p>\n
