GS Ski League

Skiers,

For those who are not familiar with the Georgetown Shores Ski League (GSSL) we are an unofficial group made up of individuals who like the challenge of improving their skiing ability in the company of friends. This improvement is scored and tracked by each individual using the buoys in the west bay. If you have only free skied, you should really try it. It is kind of like a golfer always going to the driving range and then someone introduces them to a course where they keep score. It can be a little frustrating but the challenge to improve is very satisfying.

If anyone has questions as to how the course is done, stop by the house of any of those who ski it regularly and ask. We would love to chat with anyone about it.

We track it on the web form and every set entered gets added to the database. You do not need to be striving to win the league to be entering your scores. Everyone who wants to track their skiing is welcome to enter data. The formulas are all set for the new year and all we need to do is get the names of those who want to track scores added to the list of skiers names.

The “Kick-Off” for the 2014 Georgetown Shores Ski League will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Rainbow Grill in Hudsonville. Breakfast will be at 8 am and a short general meeting will follow.
If you are interested in participating this year and can’t make the breakfast, please contact Randy Karel at randyk5635@gmail.com.

The league will start on July 1, 2014 and end on August 31, 2014. We will be using the months of May and June to determine your initial handicap. In order to calculate your 2014 handicap, you need to enter six scores in the League Webform prior to July 1st.

We will be covering the scoring at the kick-off meeting. We will use a handicap system that will level the playing field for the beginner to advanced skier. Tracking your scoring is as simple as entering your score into a web site (Thank you Randy Plaisier). Scoring will include head to head completion, points for # of sets skied, points based on percentage of improvement, and points from a summer tournament. Scoring will be covered in more detail at the kick-off meeting.

Once again, we are looking forward to this year’s league competition. Whether you are a beginner or you have been skiing the course for a few years, the handicap system will allow everyone who enters the ability to compete. The ski league, even though competitive, is more about meeting neighbors and people who like to water ski.

Come see a Ugandan Children’s Choir!

One of our residents, John VanDyke, traveled to Uganda in 2011 with his daughter, Emily, to minister to orphans and rural pastors.  Now 16 of those children are in the U.S., conducting concerts.  They will be performing lakeside at the VanDyke’s house (1721 East Shore Ct.) on Saturday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m.  (Chapel Pointe Church as back-up/weather venue.)  Bring a lawn chair, or anchor your boat on the southwest section of the east bay, and enjoy the true joy of worshiping with singing, dancing, stories, and drums.

Time for Spring!

OK, it is almost April (One week from yesterday) and the lake is still completely frozen.

Soon (we hope) the ice will melt and the weather will turn warm.  There is a good video for all to watch about boating and remembering others.

Take a look at it located here and brought to us by  Water Sports Industry Association.

Power Issues in the Association

One of our residents recently lodged a complaint with Consumers Energy with regards to the loss of power 3 times in the last 2.5 months. They asked for root cause analysis and also recommended that if they did not have good plans to alleviate the problem.  Some of our residents are fed from Jenison and some are fed power from Hudsonville.  A better plan would be to tie all the sub from the main coming out of Hudsonville which has not lost power over the same time frame.

He was just contacted by the Consumers Field engineer today. They are going to take the suggestion and move the Northwest portion of the subdivision onto the same grid as the rest of the subdivision. Currently this section is at the end of the Jenison Main and is overburdened.

This change is tentatively scheduled to occur 12-19-2013. It will be a HOT changeover, so we should not loose power during this change.

Hopefully this will rectify the power outage issues we have been facing.

here is the contact info for future reference.
